It was over 40 years ago since the American war in Vietnam ended. The traces of horrible crime are disappearing as economy kicks in, and all focus on booming and expanding, getting a new life. Despite the long ended war, its effects linger in ways words can hardly describe. To today's younger generations, what happened in the past might sound just like a distant story retold. But for so many people who have lived through it, the horror has not ceased effect. One who may survive it, consciously or unconsciously see it grewing into a part of themselves. The War Remnants Museum, situated right at the heart of the cosmopolitan Saigon, is here to show half a million visitors each year what Vietnamese people went through during the Vietnam War, and how this traumatic event still impacts many lives today.

The museum was opened to the public for the first time just 5 months after the end of the Vietnam War. One of the reasons that made War Remnants Museum the number one on the list of 210 things to do in Ho Chi Minh City on Tripadvisor is how it does not hold back when putting the un-censored brutality and the civilian victims on display, for people to confront and be reminded of the consequences of wars.

American armored vehicles including tanks, planes, a single-seater attack aircraft and a 6,800kg conventional bomb are on display in the open yard. One corner is devoted to the notorious prisons on Phu Quoc and Con Dao Islands. Unforgettable photographs and evidence of Agent Orange, napalm and phosphorus bombs as well as various work of photographers killed during the war are uncensoredly exhibited to the public.
